Non Surgical Fat Reduction

Aqualyx is ideal for removing small localised areas of fat from those stubborn parts of the face or body. These areas are commonly hard, if not impossible to target with diet and exercise alone. Larger areas can be dealt with although this may require a longer period of time with many more sessions necessary. Due to this, sometimes an intervention such as liposuction or cryolipolysis (fat freezing) may be more suitable for your needs. We can advise on this during your initial consultation.

While fat anywhere can be treated, Dr favours the use of Aqualyx in the face, where the results for double chins and jowls are stunning after 3 sessions. To further enhance facial contouring we sometimes like to combine both Aqualyx and fillers to augment the cheekbones, jawline and chin. This is maybe necessary in older ladies.

Aqualyx is deoxycholic acid and works by damaging the cell membranes of fat cells so the stored fatty acids are released and metabolised. The immune system then mops up what is left of the fat cell. Fat removal is permanent however remaining fat cells can keep storing fat so it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Aqualyx is designed to break fat down slowly so the skin is able to recover. The inflammation after treatment is paramount in helping the skin to tighten.

Three sessions, at 4-week intervals, are ideally required to see desired results on the face. Fat removal in other areas of the body may need 6-8 sessions.

After treatment, there will be swelling for up to 1-2 weeks. Bruising is quite likely and the treated area may feel hard or lumpy. It is also worth noting that in some cases skin sensation may be temporarily altered for a short period.

The treatment is pain-free. This is due to the Aqualyx being injected into the fat layer under the skin. Here there is an absence of nerves and we also manage this by the use of fine needles which are changed at regular intervals. If desired a small amount of local anaesthetic can be added to the Aqualyx to further guarantee client comfort.
